  • Amazon Best Sellers
  • Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens
  • Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
    • heavy, famous for saturated color and deep contrast. Its images are simply stunning
    • most cited weaknesses is the f/4 aperture, bump up the ISO
    • most compared to Tamron 17-50mm
    • had more contrast then the Sigma 17-70
    • need to adjust to a high ISO or have good flash in order to take good shots in low light. This isn’t a problem for 20D, 30D, 40D, 5D, and up. Rebel XT / XTi users will need to utilize a noise reduction program.
    • similar image quality, $650 vs $300 price difference, f/2.8 is only at 17mm on Tamron - then f/4
    • canon focus is faster, has weather seal, is built better and is more rugged, USM quite zoom
    • tamron has 6 year warranty, canon only 1 year
    • SLRGEAR.com comparision
      • Canon performs well, quality glass
      • Tamron soft edges and tele angle
  • Canon 24-70 f/2.8L USM – best for Portrait? Models? (besides primes 85, 135)
  • Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
  • Tamron Autofocus 17-35mm f/2.8-4 DI LD Super Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon
    • websites have given this lens outstanding marks - good value, half of price of the Canon 17-40mm lens
    • much better lens (than the kit lens), with a better warranty
    • A good lens hood (the one supplied with the lens is useless) is needed to remove flare
  • Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 EX DG IF HSM Aspherical Super Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras !!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Sigma 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 EX DG IF Aspherical Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
    • 17 lenses and goes down to 15mm (110 degrees)- no reviews, perhaps only f/3.5 compared to f/2.8?
    • sharp but the AF was slow and loud
    • better center ultrawides review - The Sigma 15-30mm matches or maybe even outresolves the Zeiss 21mm in the frame centre, though it can’t compare to the Zeiss’ edge performance.
  • Canon EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
  • Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG IF HSM
    • $600, $640 + free ship detail
    • WIDE 122 degree view, not fisheye - straight lines = straight!
    • great for landscapes, good light, sharp corners?
    • better center ultrawides review - The Sigma 12-24mm is clearly the poor relation of the bunch, though it is very consistent in its centre/corner performance (unlike the Canon) - just uniformly softer across the frame.
  • Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro
    • $433 details, very sharp, 7.8, compares to Canon 24-70L, Aaron Rishel uses

tele

Necessary for some blurring effect and to isolate the subject from a distance. Sometimes a tripod could always be used for the non-IS/OS lenses... however it is a nice feature to have.

    • a knock-around low-end lens, frankly was amazed at the sharpness and clarity and comparable quality of image I’m getting as compared to my more expensive EF lenses.
    • focal ring is on the outer edge of the lens, polarizing filter, where the orientation of the filter is critical, you’ll find that the act of focusing will spin the filter along with the focal ring
    • easily my lightest weight lens I now own
    • older: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM - $145
