OpenOffice.org

Some howtos, but mostly notes and tricks on little ‘gotchas’ as I come across them.

Writer

  • There are wordperfect to swx “wpd2sxw” and to anything “wp2x” conversion utilities in debian

Tables

  • Split and Merge Cells - use a combination of both to line up the cells the way you want. On OOo 1.1.3 you are restricted from sliding the cell edges beyond another one in the same table (on another row). So move into the cell where you would like to have the cell edge be, and split that cell. Then highlight over 2 or more of the cells you would like to erase, then right-click and merge them.
  • :?: Show Table Outline - I believe in M$ Word that you can set the tables to not have borders be shown/printed, yet still view the “table outline” while editing the document. How to do this in OpenOffice.org Writer? (Answer: Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - Appearance - Select “Table boundaries”)
